Stargate  is the movie that put Centropolis on the map. Their earlier outing, Universal Soldier , was a success, but not a 'recognition' movie. In other words, it wasn't a movie that studios saw and said "We want them to make movies for us!". But Stargate  was.

Most die hard Centropoholics know that Centropolis had originally envisioned Stargate  as a trilogy. But, never having the chance to proceed after the first one, and since (as per) they didn't own the rights to Stargate , they were sold. Originally created by Showtime, now the Sci-Fi channel has one of its most successful running series Stargate  SG-1 , based on the hit Centro movie, but obviously straying far from the path that it was intended.
